The Seventh-day Adventist Answer to Conspiracy Theories

Post by Zog Has-fallen »

The Seventh-day Adventist answer to conspiracy theories was aptly explained in The Hidden Danger of Conspiracy Theories by William McCall, published in the March/April 2010 issue of Liberty Magazine.

Please consider these rebuttals:
Mandela Was A Terrorist wrote:An SDA pastor named McCall wrote a really stupid article for the SDA magazine 'Liberty' called 'The Hidden Danger of Conspiracy Theories' which you can google. In it he chastised fellow Christians for being what he called overly concerned and about the conspiracies and potentially causing trouble for being so.
Before I read the article, I bet that I can guess what his definition of "overly concerned" must be. His emphasis: "Don't care about the rights of victims, justice or free speech, unless Satan's unrestrained power of evil impacts your own personal right to keep the Sabbath"?
William McCall wrote:A problem with conspiracy theories is that they oversimplify world events in order to find a scapegoat.
That's certainly true of your ridiculous oversimplification. However, in general, not all conspiracy theories are problematic. A conspiracy is "an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons." A theory is a conceptualization that is guessed at based on incomplete evidence. Consequently, by dictionary definition, the most rational explanation of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory unless you believe that the demolition of the three towers in the World Trade Center and the attack on the Pentagon was accomplished by a single individual acting alone.
William McCall wrote:In the world of conspiracy theories, conjecture takes the place of diligence and fear takes the place of reason.
So what you have written is a conspiracy theory.
William McCall wrote:Often a particular clique of evil people is given virtual omnipotence, as if when major events, such as world wars, take place, everything happens according to plan. Does the devil himself have so much power?
Yes. Just consider how easily you have believed a lie without even wanting to investigate the facts.
William McCall wrote:No one is responsible for things done without their knowledge.
False. The willfully ignorant are culpable.
William McCall wrote:Jesus never told His followers to be concerned with “secret” events or conspiracies.
I guessed correctly. Pastor William McCall believes that the families of the victims of 9/11 have no right to have their questions answered, that justice should not be pursued, and that the 9/11 conspiracy should be forgotten and not investigated, and that all the reputations of the financiers, conspirators, and co-conspirators, should be protected.
William McCall wrote:Here are some generalizations we can make about conspiracy theories:

1 Conspiracy theories treat allegations as fact.
And is not the official government conspiracy theory treated as fact? To be sure, the Truther Movement interprets the prevailing conspiracy theory about 9/11 as simply being far more credible than what the government wants us to believe.
William McCall wrote:2 They reinforce our prejudices.

Indisputably, your conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories reinforces your prejudices and are mere flights of fancy. Unquestionably, there is no greater prejudice than happily believing an outrageous lie without even wanting to investigate the facts. The allegations of the 9/11 Truther Movement are supported by an abundance of well-documented evidence.

William McCall wrote:3 They encourage cynicism and paranoia. Normal channels of information cannot be trusted according to this mind-set.

That's the fundamental difference between Liberty magazine, which represents the Seventh-day Adventist church, and The Church of Christian Truthers. As your article demonstrates, you and the hierarchy of your church are encouraging the Adventist laity to trust the false prophet power of Revelation 13. And the Seventh-day Adventist policy of corporate cowardice is plainly evident on many levels. Courageously however, Christian Truthers are presenting compelling reasons to believe that a great endtime power of evil exists.
William McCall wrote:The events of September 11, 2001, were among the most traumatic in the history of the U.S. As a result, they were investigated by a panel of all different political stripes.
And American citizens have no right to know what those investigations revealed. Truth, however, is shining brightly. Overwhelmingly, Christian Truthers are revealing that many fundamental questions were not asked, that crucial evidence was destroyed and that many facts surrounding 9/11 were either ignored or covered up from start to finish and were most certainly not investigated. Consequently, I am confident that either you are lying or have no idea what Christian Truthers assert.
William McCall wrote:4 They tend to be almost religious in nature because they require a faith. They are cultish and imply, “You can’t trust them (almost all society), but you can trust us.”
No. The Truther Movement is based upon evidence. Your view is based on astonishing ignorance and presumption.

Those to whom the message of truth is spoken, seldom ask, "Is it true?" But, "Who are the men that present these doctrines?" They judge of the truth by the character of its advocates. Multitudes estimate it by the numbers who accept it; and the question is often asked, as of old, "Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed?" We cannot boast of large numbers, or of the patronage of the wealthy, or the great in the world's estimation. - Ellen G. White, {RH, April 12, 1892 par. 15} .
William McCall wrote:5 As the case of the Protocols, conspiracy theories are often born of conspiracies themselves. They are attempts to slander perceived enemies with innuendo and unsubstantiated allegations.

6 Unproven or unprovable? We should wonder why the evidence is not submitted to the appropriate authorities. Was a crime allegedly committed? The evidence should be submitted to the authorities.
And I wonder why the Seventh-day Adventist hierarchy is guiding the laity to trust the false prophet (Rev. 13) and to be satisfied with Laodicean complacency, profound ignorance and blind presumption.
William McCall wrote:Often conspiracy theories revolve around the medical world. Quack remedies are espoused because the medical profession (hundreds of thousands of doctors and scientists around the world!) cannot be trusted. Is a remedy effective? Submit your research to a peer-reviewed journal. The excuses given by theory-mongers are a tacit admission that they cannot prove their theory.
There are reasons to trust the right arm of the gospel and to believe that a few outspoken dissident scientists are more credible than the entire medical establishment. https://everythingimportant.org/cannabis
William McCall wrote:7 Ignorance is supplanted with false certainty.
In your case, ignorance and false certainty go hand-in-hand.
William McCall wrote:8 They promote pride and self-righteousness. As Paul said, “Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up” (1 Corinthians 8:1). Conspiracy theories are enticing because the adherent thinks he knows something.
Sanctimonious Enablers of Genocide should know something about pride and self-righteousness. However, your indifference prevents you from hearing the cries of the families of the victims of 9/11. You have been seduced by your own heartless conspiracy theory.
William McCall wrote:At best, conspiracy theories are a waste of time. At worst, they pander to the basest elements of human nature.
Tell that to those who are hurting because of your hypocritical indifference. And while you're at it, please confess your hatred of the 9/11 victims' families with Glenn Beck.

Ridiculous 9/11 Conspiracy Theories
In the interest of fairness, I must point out the very respectable opinions of those that oppose the 9/11 Truther movement. Consequently, let's take a serious look at the official conspiracy theory of Al Qaeda and the US government.

Cowardice to the Core

The essence of SDA heresy is that Seventh-day Adventists are content with error and are opposed to advocating for social justice.
