I'm aware of scholarly quotes claiming that the literary style of Genesis 1-11 reflects the author's intent that the account be taken as a straightforward historical narrative--whether or not one actually believes that narrative.
My question is this: Is anyone aware of statements by Old Testament scholars claiming in essence that one can be faithful to the literary style of the text and at the same time interpret the first several chapters of Genesis non-literally? If so, would you be kind enough to supply references?
